Widespread voting machine issues reported in Cambria, other counties

Nov 09, 2024

Widespread voting issues were reported in precincts across Cambria County, with residents reporting issues in other counties Tuesday morning.

6 News spoke with voters who said that voting machines were unable to scan ballots. Cambria County has since resolved the issue, and Bedford County reported that they identified that issue with their tabulator machines and sent support teams to resolve the problem.

In a press release, Bedford County reported the problem was caused because they were unable to open the voting tabulator machines with their security keys.

During voting issues, voters reported that they were being asked to cast paper ballots in lock boxes to be scanned at a later time, or asking voters to return later in the day once the machines were fixed. Election officials in Bedford County reported that they instructed voters to place their ballots in the 'Secure Storage Bin' on the tabulator.

Bedford County also reported that their voting issue was not software-related, and unrelated to issues experienced in other Pennsylvania counties.

The Department of State later posted this statement on X, announcing a voter extension to 10 p.m. in Cambria County.
